 Learn the fundamentals of event management and the practical skills and confidence to professionally organise an event

Our Diploma, run over one evening a week for 12 weeks, aims to teach students the vital role that the events play in the world of business, the arts, the non-for-profit sector, and sports.

The objectives of this Diploma is to provide students with the necessary skills to work efficiently and successfully in the event management industry. On successful completion of the course, graduates will have a clear understanding of the elements that go into planning, designing, executing and managing an event from start to finish.

Through a combination of key topics, case studies and guest lectures, students will gain first-hand expertise and insight into organising successful and profitable events.

This programme is designed for those who aspire to a career as a professional event manager, and is ideal for professionals from all kinds of organisations who are faced with the challenges of organising events during the course of their work.

It is also geared toward those currently working in event management industry (or who have had a flavour of event management) and want to take it further as a career. We will focus on all the elements in event planning, management, budgeting, control, creativity, presentation skills, human resources management, team building and health and safety. We will also focus on sponsorship, conferences, exhibitions, corporate, charity, award ceremonies, sustainability in events and post production evaluation .

Session 1: Introduction, Course Structure, Assignment, Learning outcome, Lecturers

Session 2: Event planning and management, setting realistic objectives and goals; project plans, operational plans and budgeting, the role of the event manager.

Session 3: Event marketing and the role of social media in events.

Session 4: Event marketing and the role of social media in events.

Session 5: Sponsorship and events

Session 6: Creativity, developing event themes & client presentations skills training

Session 7: Conferences and exhibitions,

Session 8: Corporate, charity events, award ceremonies, televised events

Session 9: Sustainability and green events/venues, risk assessment

Session 10: Event health & safety, event production, on-site management and post event evaluation

Session 11: PR and social media. Briefing journalists. Press releases and press packs. Commissioning and briefing photographers. Maximising publicity opportunities for your event.

Session 12: Wedding Planning. Venue selection, client brief, budgeting and location. Church weddings, civil weddings. Destination weddings. Legalities.

Session 13: Sports Event Management. Creativity, logistics and onsite management.

Session 14: Music Event & Festivals. Risk management. Health and safety. Planning and logistics for music events & festivals.

Gráinne Brookfield is an accomplished Event Director, having worked in events for more than 15 years, managing festivals, conferences, weddings, exhibitions and many parties. Gráinne held the position of Manager of the O’Reilly Theatre, Belvedere & Business Manager of Belvedere College for three years, during which time she honed her event marketing skills. She is currently working at experiential events company Nineyards.
She also holds a BA in Human Resource Management.

Classroom-based course:

€1,295 (or €1,395 if paying the course fee in instalments)

This Diploma is assessed via a 2,500 word document. This document will be condensed into a Power Point presentation (12-15 slides, max 10 minutes) and presented at the end of the course (90%). There will also be a 3-minute piece to camera presentation skills training that is 10% of your final mark
