Course: Advanced Portfolio building course in Digital SLR Photography 

Start date: Thursday, 28 January 2016

Duration: 10 weeks, one evening per week from 6.30 to 9.30pm

Course fee: classroom-based €845 (or €895 if paying the course fee in instalments)

Multi-Course Discount: Students who register for two or more courses  can do so at a fee of €795 per course.




  • Session 1 :

    • Finding your specialisation. Why is it important and how to choose.
    • Choosing the best lens for your subject.

    Session 2 :

    • How to select you best images. Learn how to critique your own work. Critique and comments on current best images and direction to go from here.

    Session 3 :

    • Better composition.
    • Shoot and show your images

    Session 4:

    • Improving the quality of light in your images.
    • Using the light to create a mood and tell a story
    • Shoot and show your images

    Session 5 :

    • Using a different light source.
    • Mixing different temperatures of light.
    • Shoot and show your images

    Session 6

    • Fieldtrip – Shooting in the city with team exercises, refining composition and getting creative.
    • Each will be assigned a personnal challenge.

    Session 7 :

    • Editing your images. Basic and creative editing to get the most out of your images and prepare them for print and web presentation. Review and critique fieldtrip images.

    Session 8

    • Shooting and directing a model.
    • Improve posing male and female subjects.
    • Telling a story and evoking emotion.

    Session 9

    • Selecting your portfolio images, editing and preparing for print

    Session 10:

    • Review and critique of printed images. Learn to critique your own work. Editing demonstration
    • Final Q & A.

    Advanced – Budding professional / Advanced hobbiest. Good knowledge of equipment.

    Equipment Needed:

    Bring your SLR camera (must have manual controls) and at least 1 lens.
    Optional: additional lenses, camera flash and tripod.
